The first time I watched the mist lift off Dal Lake at six in the morning, holding a cup of clay-pot kahwa, I realized why travellers keep coming back to this valley. A week in Kashmir sounds like plenty of time on paper, but once you factor in the winding mountain roads, the security checkpoints, and the sheer temptation to stop for tea every twenty kilometres, days vanish quickly.

That is why we built this specific kashmir tour package 7 days to cover the essentials without turning your holiday into a forced march. You get two nights on the water in Srinagar, a high-altitude day in Gulmarg, and a deep, unhurried exploration of Pahalgam and its furthest paved frontier, Chandanwari.

Days 1 and 2: Srinagar Arrival and Old City Alleys

You land at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar, where our driver meets you by the arrival gate with a placard bearing your name. The drive into the city takes about thirty minutes, depending on traffic near the bypass. We check you straight into a traditional wooden houseboat on Nigeen Lake or Dal Lake, where the water acts like a mirror until the afternoon breeze picks up.

Spend your first afternoon on a shikara ride through the backwaters and floating vegetable gardens, watching vendors pole their wooden boats laden with tomatoes and marigolds. Day two is reserved for the heritage of the Old City. Walk through the timber-laced lanes around the 14th-century Khanqah of Shah-i-Hamdan, visit the grand Jamia Masjid with its hundreds of deodar pillars, and wander the Mughal gardens of Shalimar and Nishat before the afternoon tour buses arrive.

  • Airport pickup in an insured sedan or SUV
  • Two nights on a heated, graded houseboat
  • Private shikara ride included on evening one
  • Guided heritage walk through Zaina Kadal markets

Day 3: The Ascent to Pahalgam via Saffron Fields

Pack your bags after an early breakfast because today you head south-east toward the Lidder valley. The road out of Srinagar runs past the flat plains of Pampore, where the air smells faintly of autumn saffron if you arrive between October and November. Even in spring, the dried earth fields are worth a twenty-minute leg-stretch with a local guide who can explain how the stigmas are harvested by hand.

As you cross the bridge at Khanabal and start climbing alongside the rushing Lidder river, the valley walls narrow and the air turns noticeably cooler. You will arrive in Pahalgam by lunchtime, checking into a hotel tucked among pine trees. Spend the afternoon walking the riverside path toward the club ground, listening to the roar of the glacier-fed water over grey boulders.

  • Three-hour drive from Srinagar to Pahalgam
  • En-route stop at Pampore saffron fields
  • Lunch recommendation: local trout at a riverside dhaba
  • Evening walk along the Lidder promenade

Day 4: Chandanwari, Betaab, and Aru Valleys

Today is the physical core of your Pahalgam tour itinerary. You will need to hire a local union cab from the Pahalgam taxi stand, as outside tourist vehicles are not permitted on these specific valley routes. Head first to Chandanwari, sixteen kilometres past Pahalgam at the mouth of the Sheshnag stream. This is where the Amarnath Yatra officially begins, and you can still see the remnants of old snow bridges if you visit early in the summer.

On your way back down, stop at Betaab Valley, named after the Bollywood film shot here, where green meadows are framed by vertical cliffs and dense pine forests. Finish your afternoon by driving up to Aru Valley, a sweeping alpine bowl where shepherds bring their flocks to graze. If you are feeling energetic, take the short pony trek up to the Lidderwat meadow trail.

  • Early morning departure to beat day-tripper traffic
  • Union cab hire organized by our team
  • Visit Chandanwari snow fields and stream
  • Explore Betaab Valley and Aru meadows

Day 5: High Altitude Day Trip to Gulmarg

Leave Pahalgam early for the three-and-a-half-hour cross-country drive to Gulmarg, skirting the northern edge of Srinagar to avoid city gridlock. By midday, you will reach the bowl of Gulmarg, famous for its meadow of flowers in summer and its deep powder snow in winter. Head straight for the cable car station if you have pre-booked your gondola passes online.

The first phase takes you to Kongdoori at 2,600 metres, and the second phase pushes up to the shoulder of Mount Apharwat at nearly 4,000 metres. The view from the top on a clear day stretches across to the Pir Panjal range and occasionally glimpses of Nanga Parbat in the far distance. Spend the late afternoon walking through the outer golf course loop before dinner at your resort.

  • Longest driving day of the tour: roughly four hours
  • Pre-booked Phase 1 and Phase 2 gondola tickets
  • Warm fleece and windproof jacket required year-round at top
  • Return to Srinagar or stay overnight in Gulmarg

Days 6 and 7: Srinagar Markets and Departure

Return to Srinagar for your final two nights, giving you a chance to slow down and explore at your own pace. Day six is entirely free for shopping in the old bund area, buying walnut wood carvings, paper mache boxes, or dry fruits like Mamra almonds and Kashmiri walnuts. Have a traditional Wazwan dinner at a local heritage restaurant if you want to sample the full spread of multi-course meat dishes.

On day seven, we coordinate your airport transfer according to your flight schedule, ensuring you arrive two and a half hours before departure to clear the multi-tier security checks at Srinagar airport. As your plane lifts off over the valley, you will see the winding ribbon of the Jhelum river one last time below you.

  • Unstructured day six for souvenir shopping
  • Assisted Wazwan dinner booking available
  • Timed airport drop-off on day seven
  • Luggage assistance throughout the journey
