How we approach it

The thinking behind these trips

Luxury in Kashmir is not really about marble lobbies. It is about a hundred-year-old houseboat panelled entirely in Kashmiri cedar, with khatamband ceilings and a verandah that opens onto the Zabarwan range. It is about a private shikara on call rather than a queue at the ghat, and a wazwan cooked by a waza in your own dining room.

We work with a small set of heritage houseboats and the best lakefront and resort properties in Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam — all inspected, none booked on reputation alone. Where it makes sense we add private guides for the old city craft circuit, chartered helicopter transfers, and access to weaving and papier-mâché workshops that are not open to walk-ins.

This is deliberately a small part of what we do, and it is the part where the details matter most.

What we take care of

Exact inclusions depend on your dates and standard of stay — these are the things we build into every trip of this kind.

  • Heritage houseboat charter

A full cedar-panelled houseboat with dedicated staff, rather than a single cabin on a shared boat.

  • Private shikara on call

Your own boat and boatman for the length of your stay, not a metered ride.

  • Wazwan by a traditional waza

A full multi-course Kashmiri feast cooked privately and served on a traem.

  • Access to craft workshops

Private visits to pashmina weavers, sozni embroiderers and papier-mâché artisans.

Questions

Luxury FAQs

The questions we get asked most about this kind of trip.

Are luxury houseboats comfortable in winter?

The good ones are. Deluxe-category boats run bukharis or electric heating and are genuinely cosy — we only use boats we have personally checked for winter comfort.

Can you charter an entire houseboat?

Yes, and for most of our luxury clients that is exactly what we do. It gives you the drawing room, dining room and verandah entirely to yourselves.

Do you arrange helicopter transfers?

Where services operate, yes — most commonly Srinagar to Gulmarg or Pahalgam, subject to weather and availability.

What does a private wazwan involve?

A traditional multi-course meal — rogan josh, rista, gushtaba, tabak maaz and more — cooked by a waza and served on a shared copper traem. It needs to be ordered a day ahead.
