Planning
What is the best time to visit Kashmir?
It depends entirely on what you want. Late March to early May gives you almond blossom, the tulip garden and mild weather. June to August is the classic summer season with open passes and full trekking access. September to November brings autumn chinars, the saffron harvest and the clearest mountain views. December to February is snow season, cheapest of all, and spectacular if you are prepared for the cold.
How many days do I need for a Kashmir trip?
Six days is the comfortable minimum for Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Five works if you are willing to move quickly. Eight to ten lets you add Sonmarg, Doodhpathri or Yusmarg without rushing. If you want Ladakh as well, add at least five more days including acclimatisation.
Do you publish fixed package prices?
No, and deliberately so. Hotel rates in Kashmir swing enormously between seasons, group sizes change everything, and a fixed price list would mean either overcharging you or quietly cutting corners. Tell us your dates, group size and rough budget and we will send a specific itinerary with a specific price.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to three months for peak summer (June–August) and snow season (January–February). Four to six weeks is usually fine for shoulder season. Large groups and the tulip or Amarnath windows need longer.
Safety & Practicalities
Is Kashmir safe for tourists right now?
Tourist areas are well frequented and local hospitality towards visitors is exceptional. We are based in Srinagar, we track conditions daily, and we will tell you plainly if any part of an itinerary needs changing — including advising you to postpone if that is the right call.
Is Kashmir safe for solo women travellers?
Yes, and it has a strong reputation for this. We still recommend vetted accommodation, a known driver and a local contact available at any hour, all of which we provide as standard.
Will my mobile phone work in Kashmir and Ladakh?
In Kashmir, most networks work normally. In Ladakh, only Indian postpaid connections work — prepaid SIMs from outside the region do not. Coverage in Gurez, Bangus, Zanskar and parts of Nubra is limited or absent.
Are ATMs and card payments reliable?
In Srinagar, Jammu and Leh, yes. Outside those, carry cash. Shikara operators, pony handlers, homestays and most village businesses are cash-only.
Enquiries & Booking
What happens after I submit an enquiry?
One of our planners reads it, and you hear back within a few working hours with questions or a first draft itinerary. We do not send automated brochures or pass your number to third parties.
Can I change the itinerary after booking?
Within reason, yes. Nothing is a fixed departure — these are private trips, so adding a day, swapping a destination or changing a hotel is usually straightforward subject to availability.
Do you handle permits and registrations?
Yes. Inner Line Permits for Ladakh, Vaishno Devi Yatra Parchi, Amarnath Shrine Board registration, Dachigam wildlife permits and Gulmarg gondola tickets are all handled before you travel.
Do you arrange flights?
We advise on timing and routing but generally suggest you book flights directly — it is cheaper and gives you control over changes. Everything from the airport onwards is ours.
On the Ground
Why can't I use my own car in Pahalgam and Gulmarg?
Local regulations reserve the routes to Aru, Betaab, Chandanwari and parts of Gulmarg for registered union taxis and ponies. Rates are fixed and posted. We pre-arrange these so there is no negotiation on the day.
What should I pack?
Layers, always. Even in June, evenings at 2,600 m are cold. For winter: thermals, a proper down jacket, waterproof boots and gloves. For trekking: broken-in boots and a rain shell. We send a detailed kit list with every confirmed itinerary.
Is altitude sickness a risk?
Not in the Kashmir valley, which sits at 1,585 m. It is a genuine risk in Ladakh and at Gulmarg's second gondola phase (nearly 4,000 m). Every Ladakh itinerary we build includes at least two acclimatisation nights in Leh.
Can you cater to dietary requirements?
Yes — vegetarian, Jain, halal and allergy requirements are briefed to every hotel and driver in advance rather than being raised at the table.
