Overview
About Bahu Fort & Bagh-e-Bahu
Bahu Fort stands on a bluff above the Tawi, directly opposite the old city, and is generally considered the oldest structure in Jammu — traditionally attributed to Raja Bahulochan some three thousand years ago, with the present walls rebuilt by the Dogra rulers in the 19th century.
Inside is the Bawe Wali Mata temple, dedicated to Mahakali and one of the most visited shrines in the city, particularly on Tuesdays and Sundays. Around the fort the Bagh-e-Bahu terraced gardens step down towards the river, and an underground aquarium — among the largest in India — sits at the base of the hill.
The whole complex takes a couple of hours and gives the best view of Jammu city there is.
Also known as: Bawe Wali Mata · Bagh-e-Bahu
