Overview
About Doodhpathri
Doodhpathri is the easiest genuine alpine meadow to reach from Srinagar — about forty kilometres, under two hours, and yet it still sees a fraction of Gulmarg's traffic. The meadow sits at around 2,730 metres and rolls for kilometres, broken by pine stands and crossed by the Shaliganga stream, which churns so white over its bed that locals named it the valley of milk.
There is almost no development here, which is the point. You come for an afternoon on the grass, a walk up towards Tangnar or Mujpathri, and horses grazing against a backdrop of conifer ridge. In winter it becomes a straightforward and very beautiful snow destination, close enough to Srinagar for a half-day run.
Also known as: Valley of Milk
Why people come here
The Shaliganga stream
Froths white over its rocky bed through the meadow, giving the valley its name.

Kilometres of open grass with almost no construction — rare this close to Srinagar.
Tangnar and Mujpathri
Higher meadows a short walk beyond, usually completely empty.
Winter accessibility
One of the easiest snow destinations to reach from Srinagar in January and February.
