Overview

About Nathatop

Nathatop is a short but steep drive above Patnitop, ending on an open ridge at 2,711 metres. The forest thins out near the top and the view opens across the Chenab basin to the Pir Panjal, which on clear winter days is a solid white wall on the horizon.

It is the best snow point in Jammu — higher and colder than Patnitop, holding cover from late December into March in most years, with skiing, snow tubing and sledging operating at the ridge. In summer it is a paragliding launch site and the start of several short treks, including the walk to Shank Pal.

Also known as: Natha Top

Why people come here

An open ridge view across the Chenab basin to the main Pir Panjal wall.

  • Reliable snow

The highest and coldest accessible point near Patnitop, holding cover well into March.

  • Winter sports

Skiing, snow tubing and sledging operate at the ridge in season.

  • Paragliding launch

Used as a take-off site for flights down towards the Sanasar bowl.

Things to do in Nathatop

  • Go in January or February

This is when the snow is deepest and the winter sports operators are running.

  • Walk the ridge line

Short walks either side of the road give far better views than the parking area.

  • Watch sunset from the top

The light on the Pir Panjal from here is the best in the Patnitop area.

  • Combine with Sanasar

Both sit above Patnitop and fit comfortably into one day.
