Overview
About Shiv Khori
Shiv Khori is a natural cave running roughly two hundred metres into a hillside near Ransoo in Reasi district. Inside, a four-foot stalagmite is venerated as a swayambhu Shiva lingam, with water dripping onto it continuously from the cave roof. Formations within the cave are identified by pilgrims with various deities.
The approach is a three-kilometre walk from Ransoo along a well-made track, and the cave itself narrows in places — the first chamber is broad enough for several hundred people, the inner passage considerably tighter. The annual Shivkhori Mela around Mahashivratri draws very large crowds.
It pairs naturally with Vaishno Devi, roughly eighty kilometres away, and most pilgrims combine the two.
