Overview
About Patnitop
Patnitop sits on a broad ridge above the Chenab, surrounded by some of the densest deodar forest in Jammu. The name is a corruption of Patan Da Talab, the pond of the princess, and it has served as the region's principal hill station since the colonial era.
It is an easy, family-friendly destination: level forest walks, open meadows, a good climate from March to November and reliable snow in January and February. The Skyview gondola at nearby Sanget — around 2.8 kilometres, among the longest in India — has given it a genuine headline attraction, and the adventure operators here run paragliding, zip lines and skiing in season.
Nathatop and Sanasar are a short drive further up and are generally more scenic than Patnitop itself, so most itineraries combine all three.
Also known as: Patan Da Talab
