An hour from Srinagar, a wide alpine meadow cut by a stream that froths white over the rocks — hence the name, the valley of milk.

Overview
About Yusmarg
Yusmarg is small, green and genuinely peaceful — a saucer of pasture at around 2,400 metres, enclosed by dense conifer forest with the snow line of the Pir Panjal rising behind. Local tradition links the name to Jesus, who some believe passed through the valley; the meadow has carried the name for centuries.
The pleasures here are simple. Horses carry visitors up to the Doodh Ganga, a milk-white stream in a gorge above the meadow, and on to Sang-e-Safed, a high valley that holds snow well into summer. Nilnag, a small blue lake about four kilometres away, makes an easy half-day walk. There is a modest tourist bungalow and a few huts, and almost nothing else.
