The first thing I check before booking a client's travel is the local weather forecast, especially for a place like Daksum where the conditions define your entire experience.
I have seen people arrive in Daksum expecting sun, only to find the mist so thick they can barely see the river. It is a high-altitude area, and the daksum weather is defined by sharp shifts between seasons. What works for a summer retreat is completely different from an autumn excursion.
Choosing your window of time means weighing the trade-offs. Do you want the vibrant, deep greens of early summer, or do you prefer the brittle, golden quiet of late October? There is no wrong choice, provided you come prepared.
Seasonal Climate Overview
Daksum sits at an elevation where the winter is harsh and the summer is blissfully cool. From December to March, you are looking at significant snow, and many of the forest paths become inaccessible to anything but foot traffic.
April brings the thaw, which makes the terrain muddy but incredibly verdant. By May, the air begins to dry out, and you hit the prime window that stretches through September. The temperatures in the summer months rarely climb high, staying in the comfortable 18-25°C range during the day.
- Summer (May–August): Mild days, cool nights.
- Autumn (September–October): Crisp air, stunning foliage.
- Winter (November–March): Heavy snowfall, limited accessibility.

Why Summer is Peak Travel Time
Most of our clients opt for summer. It is the safest bet for reliable daksum weather. The mountain trails are clear, the meadows are in full bloom, and the river water is perfect for sitting by with a book.
The days are long, which gives you plenty of time to explore the surroundings without feeling rushed by the setting sun. If you are a photographer or just enjoy long walks in the woods, this is the time to go.

The Autumn Foliage in Daksum
If you miss the summer, October is my personal recommendation. The trees turn a deep, burnt orange, and the air has that sharp, clean bite to it. You will need warmer layers, but the crowds are non-existent.
This is the time to visit if you want solitude. The weather is stable, even if the days are shorter. Just keep in mind that the mornings can be quite brisk, so pack accordingly.

What to Pack Based on the Season
Pack layers regardless of when you come. I tell every client to carry a high-quality windbreaker or light down jacket, even in June. The temperature drop once the sun dips behind the mountains is rapid.
For footwear, skip the fashion sneakers. You want something with decent grip for the forest paths. And if you are visiting in the shoulder months, pack a pair of waterproof boots. You will thank me when the dew settles on the grass.
